Who can apply for LBHSSF Scholarships?
LBHS graduating seniors.

What if I am not a straight A student?
There are scholarships for many areas: for those attending four-year schools as well as community colleges, for those who have demonstrated commitment to academics, community service and athletics, as well as for those interested in pursuing a career in medicine, education, and the arts, just to name a few.

How do I find out about these scholarships?

In January, the LBHS Scholarship Coordinator will talk with each Government and Economics class regarding local scholarships. At that time students receive the “Go For It” booklet that describes each available scholarship.

What is the “Go-For-It” Book?
The Go-For-It Book lists all scholarships offered through LBHSSF. It includes scholarships indexed by target recipients, application requirements and general information about the scholarship.

How do I apply for the scholarships that I am interested in?
Go to the websiet (lbhssf.org) and review the “Go For It”. Then go to the application page and print out the Signature page to be returned to the Scholarship Coordinator. Next, click on the Application and complete the online application. Remember that you do not have to completely fill out the application but that you can log out and back on if you need to get more information. Once you have completed the application, click the submit button to send it to the Scholarship Coordinator. Next, click on the Check List, print it out and use as a worksheet to select the scholarships you wish to apply for. Then, click on Scholarship Instructions and find the requirements for the scholarships you have chosen on your Check List.

What if I miss the deadline?
Incomplete and late applications WILL NOT be considered! No exceptions.

Who should complete my reference sheets and write my letters of recommendations?
People who know you on the sports field, at your place of worship, in your workplace, in the classroom, etc. Not your peers and not your family.

Who chooses the recipients?
Many local organizations, groups and families choose the recipient for their scholarship. The decision is made from the information that you have submitted and sometimes they interview candidates. A Scholarship Faculty Committee, consisting of LBHS teachers and counselors who volunteer, selects a number of scholarships.

If I win, how will I be notified?
When you submit the LBHSSF Main Application, you agree to attend the Honors Convocation in early June in the LBHS Artists Theatre. All LBHSSF Scholarships are awarded that evening in Academy Award style. If you will not be receiving a scholarship you will be notified prior to the Honors Convocation and will not be required to attend.

If I am a scholarship recipient, do I receive money the evening of Honors Convocation?
For the most part, no. At the Honors Convocation, recipients receive an envelope with a verification form and the address of your donor. You are required to write a thank you to your donor and you must submit the verification form to your college once you are enrolled full time. A check is then sent to your college and those funds will be available to use towards your education. A small number of scholarship organizations present a check directly to their recipients that evening.
