TIMELINE for the SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION & AWARD PROCESS

The Laguna Beach High School Scholarship Foundation (LBHSSF) scholarship application process for local scholarships begins in January and ends in June at the Honors Convocation. Scholarships are available for both four-year and two-year colleges, as well as accredited trade and technical schools.

January
  • LBHS Scholarship Coordinator visits seniors’ classes to explain process.
  • The Go For It (LBHSSF Scholarship Booklet), the LBHSSF Local Scholarship application and the requirements for each individual scholarship are available to students online.
  • Students review "Go For It" for descriptions of scholarships and select the scholarships for which they are interested using the Scholarship “Check List”. 
  • Students then can print out the individual requirements for each scholarship available at “Scholarship Requirements”
  • Students should submit the completed application online. The online application may be saved at any time while entering information and completed at a later time.
  • Mentoring is available to seniors requesting assistance with the scholarship process.
  • Print and submit completed Signature Page to Scholarship Coordinator.
  • Complete FAFSA. FAFSA must be completed to apply for financial need LBHSSF scholarships and a copy of the Submission Confirmation (which includes Expected Family Contribution / EFC) must be submitted to the Scholarship Coordinator.
 
February
  • There is still time to submit application.  Applications should be submitted online by February 10, 2012. Detailed information about individual scholarship requirements is available online.  See above. Some scholarships require supplemental applications, essays, resumes, transcripts and recommendation letters.
  • Student prepares materials for individual scholarships.
  • Attend Festival of Arts Scholarship Workshop on Thursday February 2nd in the LBHS Library during SDL if you would like to apply for their scholarships in Film, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, and/or Writing.
 
March
  • Submit all materials required for individual scholarships on or before March 2, 2012 by 4:00. All materials should be submitted with both the student name and the scholarship name.
  • March 2nd is also the deadline to submit FAFSA online.
  • Applicants interview with a member of the LBHS Faculty Scholarship Committee, which is scheduled by the Scholarship Coordinator.
 
April/May
  • Students may be required to have an interview with donors. Scholarship Coordinator will schedule interviews.
 
June
  • Scholarship recipients are required to attend Honors Convocation and wear their cap and gown. (Students not awarded scholarships will be notified the week before Convocation)
  • Invite family to Honors Convocation Friday, June 8, 2012, 7:00 pm in the Artists Theater
  • Verification of Enrollment forms are given to students to be completed by the college's Financial Aid Office once student has enrolled.
  • Students are required to write a thank you note to each donor prior to receipt of funds (a copy must be sent to the Scholarship Coordinator).
  • Scholarship amount is sent directly to the college upon receipt of the verification form but no earlier than September 30th following graduation.
